6 Tips for the Professional Finish

Never skip prep day

‘Failure to prepare, prepare to fail’ has never applied more than it does to get a pro finish on your paint job. The temptation to open a can and just start rolling away can be strong. We get it. Whilst proper cleaning and preparation of your surface do take time, and it’s not all that exciting, the effort you put in now will be worth its weight in gold. Trust us, we learned the hard way.

  • Clear out your space (so there’s more room to manoeuvre, and fewer things to cover).
  • Use drop sheets to cover everything (it’s so much easier than removing drips or spills later).
  • Sand down any bumps, cracks, and loose paint with a sanding sponge – a smooth surface gives you a smooth finish!.
  • Wipe down your walls with soapy water, rinse with a clean rag, and leave them to dry. By doing this, you’ll ensure that the paint will stick better and last longer on a nice, clean surface.
  • Tape up all your fittings, edges, and corners that you want to protect.

Remember, prep work protects your investment

Use our premium quality paint

A high-quality paint starts with ingredients that allow the paint to apply more easily, look better, and last longer. Quality makes a massive difference, and investing in good quality paint means you need less paint, fewer coats and less time. Premium quality paint is more durable meaning you won’t need to paint anytime soon, and with an easy-to-wash finish, it will make maintaining your room easy for many, many years.

A painter is only as good as his tools

Spending a few extra dollars on decent tools will make a significant difference down the line. Investing in decent tools will make your job quicker and smoother – there’s nothing worse than a cheap product ruining a quality job.

Use an extension pole!

With an extension pole, you are able to roll out walls significantly faster than without a pole. Since you can reach high and low areas without much movement of your body, you can work faster. It makes the job easier and quicker, allows you to get an even roll across your whole space, and saves you your back, with less bending and more rolling.

Cover your paint tray

Dried paint will become clumpy and lumpy and dried tools will make a mess — it’s a big no-no! You don’t have to clean brushes and rollers between coats or when you stop for the day — just wrap them in a plastic bag or plastic wrap to keep the air out. Keeping your tools fresh also means you can clean them easier when finished and use them again next time.

Paint from top to bottom

There’s nothing worse than ruining a perfectly painted wall by dripping ceiling paint onto it the next day. Be sure to work through your space from top to bottom: start with your ceilings, then walls, then finish with your trim.
